Google Fined EUR 150 Million by France for Mistreating Search Advertisers

France’s competition authority on Friday fined Google 150 million euros (USD 167 million or roughly Rs. 1,200 crores) for suspending keyword advertisers on its search engine in an unjustified fashion.

The authority also ordered Google to clarify the operating rules of its Google Ads advertising platform and the procedures for suspending the accounts of certain advertisers.

Google said in a statement that it would appeal the fine, and that its advertising policies are designed to protect consumers “from exploitative and abusive ads.”

In January 2019, France’s data protection watchdog had fined Google 50 million euros for breaching the European Union online privacy rules.
